The Greater Sudbury Board of Basketball
Officials serves the schools and leagues of the entire Sudbury region with
trained, qualified officials. Membership is open to all who are interested
in contributing to the game through officiating. Members have and
continue to be called on to officiate at all levels of basketball
played in this region, including at the University and College
level. Our board is a charter Board 106 of IAABO and all of our
members belong to Ontario Association of Basketball Officials and Canada
Association of Basketball Officials.
With a season that now stretches from early September with the High School Girls season to early July with Elementary and Masters level play, our officials are constantly in demand. This provides many opportunities for the development of younger officials, and for older officials to engage in the game at the level they feel most comfortable. It also opens opportunities for these officials to strive to improve their game and reach new levels of performance. Rules and Mechanics Clinics are held at various times throughout the year to enable members to enjoy other opportunities within the sport. Members play and coach at various levels, and at different times in the year to add to their game. The Sudbury basketball community is a vibrant and close group that LOVE the game. In the initial year of membership our Board makes every effort to assist new officials to get in the game at nominal cost. A local fee of $50 allows them to become active members with full insurance coverage and provides them with a rule book, a case book and a mechanics manual. The cost of shirts, shoes, and whistles can usually be worked out in the game fees to reduce the financial impact of starting out. Clinics are open to everyone and anyone who is interested. Floor tests, exams, and on court evaluations are conducted at various times throughout the season. Through these efforts officials can achieve membership in IAABO and CABO to move up to the national and international levels. It is the goal of our Board to assist each member to reach the level of officiating to which they aspire. If you are interested in obtaining more information contact any of the executive members.
